Audrey Solomon, Violin

Audrey Solomon, Violinist

Audrey Solomon began Suzuki violin studies at age four in Anchorage, Alaska with her mother, Beverly Beheim, a violin instructor and performer. She also studied chamber music and piano with Svetlana Velichtko, formerly of Moscow. After Audrey's first solo recitals and performance with the Anchorage Civic Orchestra at age 12, she realized that she wanted to pursue violin studies seriously. At age 15, she left home to study at the Encore School for Strings in Hudson, Ohio, and during her last two years of high school, she attended the Certificate Young Artist Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with David and Linda Cerone. She continued with the Cerones at CIM completing her undergraduate studies in 2001. Presently, she is at the University of Southern California seeking a masters of music degree in violin performance as a student of Robert Lipsett.

Ms. Solomon has been a soloist with the Anchorage Civic Orchestra, the Anchorage Symphony, the Anchorage Youth Symphony, the Fairbanks Symphony, and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. She has also been a member of the Cleveland Youth Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic, and the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra in Los Angeles. Her chamber music experience includes performances with the Chautauqua Chamber Festival, the Anchorage Festival chamber series, and the Sitka Music Festival. Audrey loves to play Irish, Bluegrass, and Texas Swing music, and is a two-time Alaska State fiddling champion. Among her awards are the Mary Lucian Casetta Memorial Scholarship Competition in Anchorage in 1997, the American String Teachers¹ Association state competition in Alaska, senior division, the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Scholarship at the Encore School for Strings, and a full merit scholarship at the University of Southern California for graduate studies. In 2000, she performed her debut solo recital in Anchorage as the winner of the Anchorage Festival of Music¹s Young Alaskan Artist Award.

Audrey won the title of Miss Alaska 2000 in the Miss Alaska Scholarship Competition. Her advocacy platform was music outreach, and her mission was to expose the public to music and the arts and its incredible benefit on youth development and education. She has had hundreds of performances, appearances, and speaking engagements promoting this platform. Among the many scholarships awarded to her at the Miss Alaska and Miss America Pageant, Audrey was the recipient of a Bert Parks non-finalist talent award.

Aside from performing, Audrey also enjoys giving private instruction and coaching young musicians, teaching Suzuki, and fiddling. Her career goal is to continue making music through performing, working in ensembles, teaching, and promoting music education through outreach.

Recent events include being a guest violinist for the Prince Albert Chamber Music Festival in Kauai, Hawaii in early June 2003.
