Richard Sherman is a dynamic performer whose appearances are in demand throughout the United States and Europe. Currently he is associate professor of flute at Michigan State University School of Music and principal flutist with the Chatauqua Symphony Orchestra. He is the former principal flutist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sherman has performed as guest principal flute with the Chicago, Detroit and Toronto Symphony Orchestras and as soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Chatauqua Symphony Orchestra among others. He has toured as principal flutist with the American Sinfonietta on Several European tours.

He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Northwestern University. As a recipient of an ITT International Fellowship, he continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London. Major teachers include Donald Macdonald, Bonita Boyd, Walfrid Kujala and William Bennett.

Mr. Sherman's first solo CD, Flute Sonatas (Summit Records) was released in May 1999. His most recent CD, American Landscape with pianist Ralph Votapek (Summit Records) was released in June 2000.
