Anchorage Festival of Music present the Spring SOIREE
"Special Guest Artists Concert"
ANCHORAGE – On Sunday evening, April 15, 2012 at 7:30 PM, the Anchorage Festival of Music will present a recital by two international guest artists - Paul Sharpe, double bass, & Sheila Browne, viola, who will join pianist, Juliana Osinchuk, in a recital of very unusual chamber music.
The program will feature works for double bass & viola by Gliere and Evan Chambers as well as the Prokofiev Cello Sonata in a transcription for viola by the guest artist. This will be violist, Sheila Browne’s first visit to Alaska. Sheila is a graduate of the Juilliard School, MusikHochschule Freiburg and Rice University & has performed in many of the world’s major halls as soloist, chamber musician, and as an orchestral principal. She is presently on the faculty of the North Carolina School of the Arts & New York University. She has recorded concerto, solo and chamber works for the Nonesuch, Sony, Albany, Centaur and ERM labels, and has premiered a concerto written for her at the most recent international viola congresses in Australia and South Africa. Paul Sharpe, is originally from Anchorage, Alaska and presently is Artist-Teacher of Double Bass at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He graduated from Northwestern University, and the University of Iowa. Recent performances and engagements have taken him to Paris, Brazil, Cleveland Institute of Music, Universities of North Texas and Michigan, and his solo engagements have included appearances with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra de Camara Theatro Sao Pedro in Brazil, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, and Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival Orchestra.
The concert will take place at 7:30 PM at the ANCHORAGE MUSEUM auditorium (625 “C“ Street – use the 7th Avenue entrance – parking will be available in the museum garage).
